Where should I move in the Raleigh, NC area?

I am a 25 year old RN and single mother. I am looking to relocate from NN, VA to the Raleigh, NC area in July 2010.I will be moving with my son and fiance, whom will be in the IT industry. I am not looking to rent, but looking to buy. I am unfamiliar with the area and have some requirements of my prospective new residence.
1. Good school system- My son will be in the 1st grade when we move.
2. Somewhere that is easily accessible to the interstate so that I can travel back and forth to work. I am looking to work at the VA medical center in Durham or Wake Med Hospital. I do not mind commuting.
3. Family friendly area with lots of things to do. (parks, activities for kids, shopping)
4. A single family home that is not too expensive, but will give me the bang for my buck (Real estate agents call me.)
Please those who know the area and could give me some good advice please help. Thank you so much in advance.

I would recommend Southwestern Raleigh. Location-wise, it’s the most easy to access other employment centers, whether it be downtown Raleigh, Durham, or Research Triangle Park. You’ll have good access to the interstate and other highways. And it’s definitely more affordable than North Raleigh or Cary. Good schools there too!
