Becoming a Real Estate Agent in New York State?

I have fulltime job now in marketing. i have a bachelor degree in communications and marketing and now i want a part time job as well. Lately i have been interested in becoming a Real Estate Agent in New York State. Any advice? what is the procedure? what is the day in life for a real estate agent like? is it 8 to 5 job, i have no clue about it! and finally what is the commison they get? is it still 3%?

u must take the course, NYREI is where i went in mnahttan. and the hours are not 8-5, lol they are like 8-9 bc people like to see apartments on the weekends, before and after work., so beprepared t work long hours. u can show lots of places but there no guarentee they will rent it. standard commission is 6%. u need to complete 25hrs of training, pass the school test, find a broker to sponsor u for ur license, register for the test, take it, pass it (some people dont pass the 1st time) u run up a lot of minutes on ur cell, and have to market yourself, pay desk fee, business cards, pay an addition to get trainined at ur brokerage, pay to get on REBNY, pay for MRI listings. its a good 1500-2000 investment to get established in real estate, good luck!
