Floor plans: How long is the longest house?

I’m a writer, and I’m trying to create a fictional mansion. Only I know jack about floor plans, and have issues with measurements (long story). The house I’m trying to design would be large, more legnth than width, and I’m not sure of appropriate sizes for a mansion. My online research has offered little I know how to use, so I figured I’d try here. If anyone could lend a hand and explain floor plans to an architectual idiot, I’d love to hear from you :)

A house that is 60 x 100 would give you a 6000 sq. ft. footprint. If you add a second story, that makes it 12,000 sq. ft. That would be considered a mansion. Hope this helps.
