Hints For Making The Most Of Your Next Garage Sale

Most people want to know ways to make a small profit every now and then. Another possibilities is that your life has too much clutter..  Believe it or not, the easiest way to do both is to have a garage sale.

If you want to have a successful one, follow these next few tips. The best garage sale people begin with a good plan, so take the time and do it right. Go through every room, sort every little thing you would like to sell and arrange the items by category such as kitchenware, adult clothing, kids’s clothes etc. Set these items aside to avoid clutter..

Also, be certain that you have enough tables and chairs.  You can borrow some from your friends and neighbors if neccessary. The last thing you need is someone complaining of a bad back because of having to reach down to look through a box of stuff.Advertise. Try to advertise well in advance of your garage sale. Informational sheets should be posted around your town, telling people of your garage sale. Your local supermarket or coffee house may also give you permission to put something in their window, or on their community board.

Be sure to talk with the landlord at the local apartment complex; see if they will allow you to place flyers in people’s mailboxes. The advertisement you distribute also is required to have the following points on it — where the garage sale is, the day and times of the sale, and a small list of things to sell. It’s also a good idea to provide an alternative date if the weather turns ugly.

Decide on Prices. Take a few days before the garage sale and be sure everything is marked. It’s no fun when people are badgering you with questions about prices because they don’t see any tags.

Many people opt to use color coded price tags to make things easier on everyone.Sell everything you can. The goal, after all is to rid your house of unneccessary stuff.  If you are [necessary to] sell more things, consider reducing the asking price later in the day.  Toward the end of the day, offer ridiculously low prices if they’ll take everything.

It will be far more worth your while to get someone to haul everything off – even if for free – versus having to take everything to the local Salvation Army.Remember, what you don’t sell you can donate to help those in need. After all, these donated items can help you out by becoming a sizable tax write off.
