What is causing a clanking noise near water pipes?

Earlier this year, my master bathroom on the 2nd floor of the house was completely gutted and renovated. (At the same time, the kitchen directly below the bathroom was also completely gutted and renovated.) I reside in NJ. Since the beginning of December – when it became much colder and windy – I’ve heard a clanking (not banging) noise behind the interior wall where the water pipes are located (directly behind the shower). Of course, the exterior wall enclosing the pipes is the outside of the house (covered by aluminum siding). The noise usually occurs after a wind blows, but sometimes it happens without wind. Sounds like a metal lid being put on and off a pot. The noise is driving me crazy and is also disturbing my sleep.

The pipes extend down to the kitchen and the basement, but no such sound is heard down in those areas – the noise is just confined to the bathroom. No such noise existed prior to the renovation.

What is causing the noise and can anything be done?

pipes were most likely not secured in enough places with pipe hangers
